Our EMDR Offerings

  • Sometimes healing benefits from focused, concentrated attention. Our EMDR intensive sessions provide hours of dedicated therapy time allowing for deep processing work in a single day.

Extended sessions create momentum that weekly therapy sometimes can't achieve. When you engage in hours of EMDR work, your brain stays in processing mode, allowing you to move through layers of a memory or issue more completely. Many clients find that one intensive session accomplishes what might take several months of weekly appointments.

Intensives are particularly helpful if you're:

    • Dealing with a specific traumatic event or period in your life

    • Preparing for a significant life transition or event

    • Feeling stuck in traditional weekly therapy

    • Looking for rapid relief from symptoms that are interfering with your daily functioning

    • Located far from our office and prefer fewer, longer visits

The extended format also means fewer interruptions in your healing process. Rather than spending the first part of each weekly session getting back into the work, you maintain continuity and can reach deeper levels of processing.

  • We offer individual EMDR sessions with a number of our therapists. If you want to know which EMDR therapists are currently accepting new clients: book here.

What is EMDR Therapy

  • Is an evidence-based psychotherapy that helps people heal from trauma and distressing life experiences. Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR works by helping your brain reprocess difficult memories in a way that reduces their emotional impact.

  • During EMDR sessions, you'll recall troubling experiences while your therapist guides you through bilateral stimulation, typically following a therapist's fingers with your eyes, tapping, or feeling gentle tactile sensations. This process activates your brain's natural healing abilities, similar to how your body heals from a physical wound. Many clients report significant relief in fewer sessions than they expected, often feeling lighter and more in control of their responses to past events.

  • EMDR was originally developed to treat post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), but research has shown it's effective for a wide range of conditions, including:

    • Trauma and PTSD from single incidents or complex, ongoing experiences

    • Anxiety disorders and panic attacks

    • Depression

    • Phobias and fears

    • Grief and loss

    • Performance anxiety and creative blocks

    • Chronic pain and medical trauma

    • Disturbing memories that continue to affect your daily life

If you find yourself stuck in patterns of thinking or reacting that don't serve you, especially when those patterns seem connected to past experiences, EMDR may be an excellent fit.

  • EMDR is one of the most thoroughly researched psychotherapies available. The World Health Organization, the American Psychological Association, and the Department of Veterans Affairs all recognize EMDR as an effective treatment for trauma.

Research consistently demonstrates that EMDR produces measurable changes in how the brain processes traumatic memories. Brain imaging studies show that after successful EMDR treatment, the parts of your brain associated with fear and stress response become less reactive, while areas responsible for rational thinking and emotional regulation become more active. This isn't just about feeling better. It's about fundamentally changing how your brain responds to memories that once caused distress.

Multiple studies have found that EMDR often works faster than other trauma therapies, with many people experiencing significant improvement in a few sessions for single-incident trauma. The effects are lasting, with research showing that the benefits remain stable years after treatment ends.
